San Francisco Community Woodshop is run by a volunteer group of woodworkers with varying backgrounds and levels of experience from 2 to 40+ years of woodworking knowledge. Many of us began woodworking through courses with furniture maker John Sheridan in the previous incarnation of the wood shop.
Our goal is to continue John’s tradition of teaching and to establish a community where people can learn and practice woodworking.
Please sign up for our mailing list here to be notified of future course openings.
We can accommodate you regardless of how much woodworking experience you have.
- Newcomers with no experience
For people who want to try a woodworking experience but aren’t ready to commit to a longer course we’re launching our Weekend Projects classes. A great way to give the shop a spin and see if woodworking is fun for you!
- Beginning Woodworkers
For people with little to no woodworking background but who are looking for a more in-depth learning experience we offer a 12-week introductory course to learn basic techniques and safe use of tools — all while building real projects.
- Experienced Woodworkers
If you have previous experience and you can pass a skills and safety evaluation, the shop is a great space for you to work on your personal projects and interact with other woodworkers.
